FAQs
What is Turbowind Energy?
Turbowind Energy is the exclusive supplier of Turbowinds medium-scale wind turbines in the UK and Ireland. We also offer a range of value-added services through our industry-leading partners.
What is Turbowinds?
Turbowinds is one of the pioneers in the design and manufacturing of medium-scale wind turbines. With over 25 years history in the industry, their track record and technology speak for themselves.
Where are your wind turbines manufactured?
Turbowinds turbines are assembled in Belgium. We believe in supporting the development of a European wind turbine manufacturing industry. Therefore, we only use quality European components and strive to source from local manufacturers in the UK and Ireland wherever possible.
What are the advantages of a Turbowinds wind turbine?
Turbowinds wind turbines offer excellent site flexibility, proven technology, low noise and low tip height, high yield and excellent support services.
Can you help with other aspects of my wind project?
Yes. Turbowind Energy together with our partners can offer a full turnkey service including site evaluation right through to ongoing operation and maintenance.
What is the warranty on your turbines?
A typical standard warranty from other manufacturers is 1 year. Our standard warranty is 2 years and this can be extended up to 5 years.
How do I find out more?
For more information call us or complete the brief contact form. We’ll be pleased to answer any queries you have.
How reliable is the T400-34 design? Is the technology proven?
The T400-34 has an excellent record of availability and has been in successful operation for 15 years.
I need wind monitoring at my site, can you help?
Yes, we can offer a number of different options for wind monitoring at your site.
What is the swept area of the T400-34?
The T400-34 has a swept area of 908 m2, producing a substantial energy yield.
Is it noisy?
As with all wind turbines, the machinery produces sound. However, the T400-34 has been tested under the standard BS EN 61400‐11:2003 Wind Turbine Generator Systems–Part 11: Acoustic Noise Measurement. Its excellent sound performance results in a lower separation distance requirement than many other comparable turbines.
What are the rotor startup/shutdown wind speeds?
3 m/s and 25 m/s.
Is the T400-34 designed to withstand severe weather?
Yes. The T400-34 is a utility grade turbine designed to withstand severe conditions and wind speeds up to 60 m/s.
How far away from houses or other turbines can it be placed?
As a result of its excellent noise performance, the T400-34 can usually be located around 450 m from the nearest dwelling, or closer on sites where background noise levels are sufficient for it to meet the relevant guidelines.
What average windspeed do I need to make it worth my while considering a T400-34?
We suggest a minimum average wind speed of 6 m/s is required.
Where can I install a T400-34?
This will depend on the specific characteristics of your site, however the design of the T400-34 means that sites that would not be suitable for the maximum 500 kW size under the medium wind tariff.
How much energy will the T400-34 generate annually?
This will depend on specific wind conditions but for example, at an annual average wind speed of 8.5 m/s the T400-34 will produce in the region of 1,451,000 kWh.
What is its power rating? Is it de-rated?
The T400-34 is a 400 kW wind turbine. No, it is not de-rated.
How big is the T400-34?
The blade tip height is the highest point of the turbine from the ground. The T400-34 is available in three tip heights (45.4, 51 and 67 metres).
Do I need planning permission? Can you help?
Yes and we can help in this regard. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
How long does it take to install and commission my turbine once it arrives on site?
Typically, the process of erection and connection takes between 7 and 10 days.
How often does the T400-34 need to be maintained?
Preventative maintenance and inspections are carried out twice yearly. Our monitoring system provides a range of performance and health check data to help ensure high availability of the plant.
I have limited access available to my site, what access is required for transport and installation?
This will depend on the individual site but the component design of the T400-34 allows access to otherwise inaccessible locations and/or reduces the civil works required to provide access. We would be happy to discuss the specific conditions of the site and what work might be required.
