Technology

The Turbowinds T400-34 is driven by a three stage parallel gearbox and an asynchronous dual speed generator. Power production is controlled using Active Stall Regulation. This is a slow pitching of the blades which can be used to control the operation of the turbine and if necessary slow down or stop the wind turbine.

The T400-34 is manufactured with components from leading European and UK wind industry suppliers with a long track-record of excellence. Learn more about the technology behind the design of the T400-34 in this section.

Rotor Blades

Turbowinds’ hollow-core rotor blades are manufactured with a vacuum infusion process using the so-called sandwich technique. Wood epoxy resin mats placed in the mould are vacuum-impregnated with resin by means of a pump and a hose system. This method eliminates air pockets in the laminate. In order to efficiently protect the rotor blade surface against [...]

Generator

ABB are one of the leading and most reliable generator manufacturers in the world. The ABB 400 kW generators used in the T400-34 utilize proven design techniques and state-of–the-art winding technology. The generator insulation and impregnation are designed to withstand high environmental stress factors. The F-class form-wound winding insulation system ensures a long lifetime using [...]

Tower

The T400-34 comes in three tower variants. The resulting tip heights of 45.4, 51 and 67 m offer a highly flexible solution for our customers.  Wherever possible, the components of the T400-34 are sourced in the UK to support the development of a local wind energy industry. The turbine tower is supplied by one of the [...]

Control System

Turbowinds’ wind turbines are equipped with a state-of-the-art PLC. The control system constantly collects information from the peripheral control sensors. It performs a number of functions to ensure that the T400-34 achieves maximum output under all weather conditions. Measurement data from the wind sensor is constantly used to correct nacelle yaw position. Dual-speed control eliminates [...]
